Scion Executive Search has been retained to conduct the search for a Director of Individual Major Gifts for our client, Global Fund for Women. Global Fund for Women is an amazing organization leading the charge on movement-led funding. Partnering closely with the Vice President of Strategic Outreach and CEO, this full-time opportunity is for immediate hire and can be based anywhere on the East Coast of the United States, with a preference for New York and Washington, D.C. This position is remote with travel required, primarily around the East Coast with some potential for international travel.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The incoming Director of Individual Major Gifts will contribute to the important work of Global Fund for Women, working on the Development team to work on major gifts strategies and systems and maintaining and expanding a portfolio of major donors. This individual will also support the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and President & CEO in strategic outreach efforts and the cultivation and solicitation of lead donors. This individual will also work collaboratively with the other Director of Individual Major Gifts, located on the West Coast, to work on strategic initiatives for the Major Gifts Program. As Director of Individual Major Gifts, this position will be responsible for raising $5M to $7M annually in support of Global Fund for Women’s incredible mission, vision, and values.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and provide strategic leadership for the Individual Major Gifts program, including the development of annual communication, cultivation, and solicitation strategies for the organization’s major donor base.
  • In collaboration with the VP of Strategic Partnerships and the other Director of Individual Gifts based on the West Coast, develop and oversee a comprehensive, regional annual plan for major gifts.
  • Collaborate on developing strategies to increase giving from current donors and to increase overall number of major donors, including upgrading existing donors and encouraging the attainment of stretch goals.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of approximately 100 major donors and major donor prospects with the capacity to make five to seven figure gifts. Accounts may occasionally include institutional partners when appropriate.
  • Maintain appropriate, consistent engagement and acknowledgement of all major donors; keep an accounting of the annual impact of their gifts on community needs.
  • Stay informed and knowledgeable about Global Fund for Women’s planned giving options.
  • With the VP of Strategic Partnerships and Director of Development Operations, work to grow and steward the Anne Firth Murray Circle of donors: individuals who have made or plan to make bequest, legacy, or estate gifts to the Global Fund for Women.
  • Ensure that the President & CEO and other program staff’s time is used strategically and efficiently for major donor fundraising.
  • Stay informed of programmatic activities to converse knowledgeably with donors about the diverse areas of the Global Fund for Women’s work.
  • With the VP of Strategic Partnerships, develop and manage the annual Individual Major Gifts Budget to ensure that all Individual Major Gifts program activities fall within the budget; monitor income and expense projections for the Individual Major Gifts Program.
  • Ensure donor and prospective data is properly recorded in the database and that all donor information is maintained with respect to organizational standards.
  • Maintain the integrity of donor relationships and the Global Fund for Women’s fundraising philosophy.
  • Support and maintain a learning environment within the Individual Major Gifts Program and across the organization.
  • Engage program staff in donor outreach and provide mentorship on donor cultivation as needed.
  • With the VP of Strategic Partnerships, meet regularly with other Global Fund for Women fundraising Directors to provide day-to-day leadership for the Development team.
  • Collaborate as needed with the Finance team and Grants Administration team on restricted gifts, planned gifts, special appeals, reconciliations, and audit preparation.
 
QUALIFICATIONS

We are seeking a skilled development professional with a track record of securing major gifts and building a portfolio through thoughtful donor cultivation. This individual will work collaboratively within the Development department to strategize and enact Global Fund for Women’s fundraising philosophy and plans.

  • Minimum of 5 to 8 years of professional experience in nonprofit fundraising including major gifts.
  • A commitment to international women’s rights and a strong desire to support global women’s rights movements and women’s initiatives.
  • Demonstrated successful skill and effectiveness in relationship building and solicitation of individual major donors.
  • Experience with international programs, movement building, and/or strategic grantmaking to international organizations is a plus but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to ask for and close gifts of five to seven figure gifts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate, engage, and build relationships with people from a wide diversity of backgrounds and cultures.
  • Proven ability to engage effectively with staff members with a strong commitment to collaboration.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexible and comfortable in a fast-paced environment; excellent follow-through and strategy skills.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with enthusiasm and energy to implement new strategies and meet ambitious goals.
  • Strong organization, decision-making, and delegation skills.
  • Ability to travel regularly to meet with donors, primarily across the East Coast of the United States, approximately 20 to 30 percent of the time. Occasional national and international travel may also be required.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
In addition to a fully remote work setting and a competitive base salary in the range of $125,000 to $145,000, the Global Fund for Women also provides a comprehensive benefits package including 100% coverage of medical, vision, and dental insurance for employees and their dependent children. They also provide access to FSA, fully paid life insurance, an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and 403(b) contributions. Global Fund for Women also includes three weeks of vacation per year during the first three years of employment, 12 paid holidays per year as well as paid sick time and paid parental leave!
