Scion Nonprofit Staffing, an award-winning full-service staffing firm, has been engaged to conduct a search for a Director of Finance for a theatrical production organization located in New York, NY! Reporting to executive leadership, this position will oversee the day-to-day financial operations and serve as the senior financial strategist of the theater organization. This full-time, hybrid opportunity is for immediate hire!

Position Summary:

The Director of Finance is responsible for managing all accounting and banking functions while ensuring legal and regulatory compliance. Reporting to the Executive Director, they will work closely with other members of the Senior Leadership Team to generate and track budgets for both internal and external reporting. The Director of Finance leads a team of three finance staff, including Comptroller, and two Finance Associates (payroll and AP/AR). This position requires strong organizational and operational skills to streamline and optimize internal processing systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Execute the successful financial management of the theater, including forecasting and analysis of finances.
  • Oversee finance team (Comptroller, Finance Management Associates.)
  • Manage the overall accounting, bookkeeping, and budget management for the organization, including accounts payable and receivable, billing, disbursements, inventory and capital assets, banking, and payroll functions.
  • Prepare organization budgets and coordinate with Executive Leadership to facilitate annual budget process.
  • Monitor progress of budgetary goals and provide monthly and quarterly financial reporting and analysis of financial statements, including statement of activities, fund balance, and sources/uses of funds, to the Executive Leadership, and the Board of Trustees
  • Oversee the preparation of materials for the annual audit and coordinate with external auditors as well as oversee Form 990 and state reporting.
  • Responsible for corporate insurance program including general liability, property, D&O, cyber, workers compensation and other lines as appropriate.
  • Coordinate with Development Department on monthly reconciliations, to ensure that all processing and tracking of donations are accurate, including revenue and expenses fundraising events.
  • Along with Director of Institutional Partnerships, ensure compliance with all sources of restricted funding and tracking use of restricted grants, including, but not limited to public funding grants. Ensure compliance with any federal, state or city regulations.
  • Coordinate with Ticket Services and Box Office on reconciliation of earned revenue from ticket sales, fees, and concessions.
  • Review and approve all non-artistic contracts and leases to ensure they adhere to the organization’s budget.
  • Responsible for the financial activity of additional Subsidiaries for Rental Activity and Tax Credit Activity.
  • Responsible for weekly reconciliation and preparation of settlements for Rental Activity.
  • Manage vendor relationships along with all department heads.
  • Manage, along with General Manager, all rights and licensing income from current and post productions.
  • Keep up to date on information and technology affecting functional area(s) to increase innovation and ensure compliance.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration
  • CPA designation preferred
  • Proven track record of successful financial management in fast-paced environment 
  • A comprehensive understanding of non-profit finance with preference given to those with performing arts experience. 
  • At least 7 years of proven track record managing complex non-profit budgets.
  • Experience processing Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable functions
  • Experience with accounting software, such as NetSuite, Tessitura or similar systems
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft platforms.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail required. 
  • Proven project management skills.
  • High technical capacity.
  • Team player and inclusive leader.

Compensation & Benefits:

In addition to a competitive salary of $125,000 to $145,000 annually, our client offers a full benefits package including vacation, medical and dental insurance, retirement plan, life insurance and long-term disability coverage upon eligibility.
